Beyond its rich history of providing nonpartisan education to citizens, the League of Women Voters has made its mark on local, state, and national government through grassroots issue advocacy. While the League never supports or opposes candidates for office, it does lobby lawmakers on a range of public policy issues. Our platform ranges from national and international issues to matters of local concern. You might already assume that the League advocates fair and impartial elections, but you may be surprised to learn that we also urge reform on campaign finance, civil liberties, global climate change, and health care.
The League has informed positions on issues ranging from reproductive rights and gun control, to education finance and judicial selection. These positions and others have been adopted over more than 85 years of deliberative study and grassroots consensus. Learn more about where we stand:
Over time, the League’s legislative priorities change to reflect the needs of society and critical issues of concern. The organization remains true to its basic purpose: to make democracy work for all citizens.
