Dinner will be at 6 pm, and then at 7 pm, Susan Tave Zelman will discuss the importance of an independent press and a solid, strong education to a democracy. Zelman is senior vice president, chief advisor, and system consultant of education policy at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; she formerly served as superintendent of the Ohio Department of Education.

In her presentation, Zelman will touch on how the League of Women Voters can encourage citizens to educate themselves and then to participate in the electoral process. 

Members are asked to RSVP to the League office by Jun. 4 with an idea of what dish they will bring to ensure a variety of selections. (Birthday cake is being provided to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the League's founding, so desserts are not necessary.)

Following Zelman's presentation, Ellen Haider will be honored as 2010 Member of the Year. Then the business of the League will be presented and voted on, including:

• Bylaws amendment
• Proposed budget
• Proposed program and study
• Election of nominated officers and trustees
