The purpose of this study was to identify those parameters and policy issues to be considered in connection with proposals to transfer federal, state or local government services, assets and/or functions to the private sector. The study reviewed the community impact of such transfers, and identified strategies to ensure transparency, accountability, and preservation of the common good. Metro member Ann Henkener, who served on the national study committee, will be there to review the papers. We will also have a special guest from Policy Matters Ohio, which authored a helpful paper on privatization in Ohio.

To ensure adequate food, RSVP to the League office by March 30.

Background materials, which should be reviewed prior to the meeting, can be found on the LWVUS website. Specifically, we recommend that members read "Strategies for Best Practice" and "Privatization: The Public Policy Debate." Be sure to check out the article "Federal Privatization: The Ryan Plan" by Henkener.

Members are also encouraged to review "The Great Ohio Sell-Off" and "Prison Privatization" by Policy Matters Ohio.
